Sicily is the largest Italian island in the Mediterranean. It is in the northeast dominated by Mount Etna ( 3340m high) , one of the most active volcanoes in Europe . Etna also determines the climate on the island where it is relatively cool in the north and in the south often sweltering. Sicily is a real open air museum where we can find treasures of the various cultures that have passed . We find a terroir of limestone and clay and around the Etna volcanic soil. In combination with the ever-present sun this makes it an ideal basis for winemaking. There is an annual production of about 6 million hectoliters . The Nero d’Avola is omnipresent. In recent years, particularly on the slopes of the Etna we find the best wines : the white come from the Carricante and Catarratto and the red of the Nerello Mascalese and other clones .
