The estate Le Bertille, 2 kilometres from Montepulciano, consists of about 14 ha of vines in Montepulciano and a little further in Casella. New plantings have recently been made around a landscaped lake.
Azienda Le Bertille is a real family business, now run by the 3 daughters. The eldest, Olimpia, takes care of everything concerning the vineyard and is the cellar master. The oldest vines (70 years) are around the family house. A little further on in Casella, near Montepulciano, new plantings were started in 2002 on the family’s second estate.
The vineyards lie at an altitude of 350-450m and have a North-East and South-West exposure, which creates a natural cooling effect in the vineyard. The soil contains loam, clay and sand and is ideal for growing the typical grape around Montepulciano, the Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese clone). The Rosso di Montepulciano and the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano therefore get a typical spiciness and a pleasant acidity. There are about 60,000 bottles produced at the domain of Le Bertille.
