Valle dell’Acate is a historic wine estate in the province of Ragusa, in south-eastern Sicily. The estate was founded in the late 19th century by Giuseppe Jacono and is now run by his great-granddaughter Gaetana Jacono. It specialises in growing indigenous grape varieties such as Frappato, Nero d’Avola and Insolia, which grow on seven different terroirs in the Dirillo River valley.
Valle dell’Acate’s wines are an expression of Sicily’s rich and varied culture and nature.
One of the most prestigious wines is the Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Sicily’s only DOCG wine. A blend of Frappato and Nero d’Avola, this wine has a cherry-red colour, a fruity and floral aroma and a fresh and elegant taste23. Valle dell’Acate also produces a range of wines under the name Bellifolli, which refers to the beautiful leaves of the vines. These wines are each made from a single grape variety and have a pure and intense expression. Another special wine from Valle dell’Acate is the Zagra, made from the Grillo grape. This wine has a straw yellow colour with green reflections, an intense and fruity aroma with notes of citrus and white flowers, and a fresh and mineral taste12. The Zagra is produced with organic grapes grown on yellow sandy-clay soils that enhance the wine’s freshness and aromas. The Zagra is a perfect accompaniment to fish dishes, salads and cheeses.
Finally, Valle dell’Acate also makes a number of Frappato wines, known for their light and aromatic character. Frappato is a grape variety typical of the Vittoria area, which Valle dell’Acate has brought to a high level.
Valle dell’Acate is a wine estate that combines tradition and innovation, with respect for the environment and biodiversity. All wines are certified organic and made with minimal intervention in the cellar. Valle dell’Acate invites you to discover the authentic flavours and aromas of Sicily.
