Barolo Vigneto Albarella

93/100

The Barolo Vigneto Albarella comes from the vineyard of the same name in Barolo. The soil is mainly clay (in contrast to La Morra where we mainly find sandy soils). This clay soil gives the wine a more intense colour and aromas of black fruit, spiciness, flowers, earthy notes and liquorice. Maturation takes place in barriques (50%) and ‘botte grande’ (50%). In the mouth, a very aromatic barolo with juicy tannins and pleasant acids. Very long aftertaste.

Combines with meat dishes, game, truffle.

The Albarella is a beautiful, inviting wine

The 2017 Barolo Albarella is a beautiful, inviting wine. Bright floral aromatics, orange peel and spice give the 2017 a pretty top register to balance the natural raciness of the year. Super-ripe red cherry, blood orange, mint and cinnamon lead into a finish supported by firm yet well-integrated tannins.  This is very nicely done.
