It’s soft and round upon entry, with a burst of inner sweetness that gives way to a tension-building mix of tart wild berries and balsamic spice. The 2017 sizzles through the finale, a combination of residual acids and searing tannins.
Tenuta di Sesta’s Riserva always hails from estate’s Duelecci vineyard. In the torrid 2017 vintage, the Ciacci family selected the fertile iron-rich soil of its western slope for the 4,000-bottle offering. It kicks off with nutmeg and allspice, which lead to dried floral underpinnings on the palate and vanilla suffusing the finish. Concentrated acidity balances out the lush fruit, though this is not the most expressive Brunello. Tannins are soft, giving just enough support for the near-term.
